Corrupted user ID, can't restore or add new users

Followed instructions into regedit to switch ".bak" id with twin, however, I noticed later that my friend had copied one page of instructions twice, which caused me to repeat the the step about changing values to "0" on both twins. As a result (I assume) all but one of my ids disappeared on Start and they're no longer found in the user files. I now have one id and a guest id only when I sign on to Windows. I've attempted to "add user" through "User Accounts and Family Safety" but the added accounts don't show up on the sign in. I know the regedit is the problem but I don't know the step-by-step method of fixing it. THANKS for any help you can offer me.
