Search List Of Files In Windows Explorer

    Hi,

I am not a programmer, and don't know how, or even if it is possible, to create a macro or program in Windows that will take a database of file names and search for them in certain Windows folders. Is this possible? If so, what is the easiest way?

    Thanks,

    Richard

If your drives are formatted as NTFS then give Everything a shot as it's free and will do what you want. Just enable filters under view in it.
EDIT: You might only be able to do one name at a time with that though, I missed your macro comment sorry.

With some code I'm sure it's easily doable, but certainly it's not something trivial, specially if you've never played with some code before. With a bit of luck, a .bat file would do, but for some serious work I guess a powershell script can be easy and enough for most needs.

But let's begin in the beginning. When you say "a database of file names", in what format? A plain text file? A DB server? Something else?. And then what do you mean in "certain Windows folders"? Some fixed list? User input each time? Something else?
