    pc randomly restarting

    hi guys ,
My pc has started randomly restarting from few days. The frequency of crashes is random sometimes it happens while playing games , browsing internet or sometimes just in idle state.
Due to these crashes now pc has started doing checking file systems on startup and sometimes it hangs on windows startup screen .
When the pc starts up again there is no error message.
Have'nt installed new hardware , no new software , checked with antivirus , checked with windows malware detector .

    Hi welcome to the forum

When last time you cleaned out dust from the computer? What are the temps? Check the hard drive with the manufacture of hard drive diagnostic software.

Games are the most CPU, memory etc activity demand.
As the CPU will shut down to protect itself, I would say that your CPU is reaching high temperatures and your computer is shunting down to protect itself.
On BIOS you have a temperature alarm. Enable it and set it to 80ºC.
If the temperature reaches 80ºC you will hear an alarm from the case loudspeaker (you have one, don't you?).
Have you overclock any setting (clock, voltage etc)?

hello , thanks for your replies.
@ oscer i cleaned my pc yesterday i only did it to see if there were any lose wires or maybe the dust caused it, but the problem of restarting has been happning since 4-5 days. yesterday the pc again restarted itself and got stuck at windows starting screen so i restarted it few times to see if it will load but it did,nt so i started bios to check the temps the CPU TEMP REACHED AT 55 C max. in bios and motherboard at 33c constant.
one thing i noted sometimes when pc starts it performs harddisk check on disk g, i ...these are partitions in my spare harddisk , So today i removed my spare harddisk to check if the problem still remains.
I also cleaned the heatsink of cpu and replaced the old thermal paste which was getting solidified with new one.

restarts occur in idle state or when browsing internet also, cpu reached max 55c in bios but there was no program running so maybe it can go higher , yes i have a loudspeaker and i will add alarm on 80c and no i have'nt overclocked my pc .

Thermal paste never needs to be replaced. The thin it is, the better it is.
Schedule a check disk on all disks. Run sfc /scannow

ok running disk scans , i also viewed my system temp, even after cleaning and applying thermal paste the system cpu temp was reaching 75c max after which i closed all the programs and put all the fans to blow inside the case . now the temperature maxs at 65c

there is also something i noticed whenever there is flickring of light or someone starts microwave or tv the pc restarts at that time also.

Your having power issue. Try a different outlet on a different circuit. You also might want to get a quality aps battery backup. Also if you have another power supply you could test with.

i think the power outlets were causing the problem , i have changed to other outlet and have'nt noticed any restart till now.
disk checks of main drive showed no problem and ever since i removed the spare hard drive there were no startup hangs or disk checks.

i will check for 2-3 days and reply back if some problem happens . you guys have been a great help , thank you very much
