Toshiba Satellite - black screen of death and can't even factory reset

    Toshiba Satellite L655D-S5109

A month ago was having issues with infinite start up loop after bad updates install. Couldn't even get into the command prompt for a while but then was able to and followed the "How to Recover from an Infinite Looping Startup Repair Loop without Reinstalling Windows" guide that I found on here and it worked. Got all of my personal files off then after a couple weeks decided to do a factory reset because it was starting to run slow at times.

Two nights ago had more updates from Windows and when I turned it on it said something didn't download correctly. It did a disk check and then was fine except ran slow when it booted up for a few minutes. Today when turning it on it gives options of running StartUp Repair which does the Windows loading files screen then goes to a black screen with the cursor icon. Also gives the Start Windows Normally option which gets stuck on the opening Windows icon and never moves.

All F8 options end up with black screen with cursor and the kicker is that I attempted factory reset twice now and it goes to a black screen with cursor as well. I don't have a recovery disk or any other Windows media.

Is there anything else I can try (tried taking the battery out too and holding down power button) or is this laptop toast? Thanks and let me know if you need any other system specs.

I would say that you have a disk problem.
If you do have a Win (7, 8 or 10) installation disk, boot with it, go to repair, launch command prompt and then type chkdsk C: /f.
