Copying files from one hard drive to another

    Hello,

I'm wanting to copy some files from an external hard drive to an internal SSD drive which has enough space free. However, when i copy and paste to the destination drive, Windows Explorer only recognises a fraction of the total amount I've selected, about 10% approximately.

I doing this as 1/Freeing up space on the external HDD and 2/The files are already backed up on a separate part of the external hard drive.

    Thanks

Is it always the same files that are not copied? If not windows has problems with large amount of data and files with very long path names. Try moving the data in smaller batches or use something like robocop robocopy

Or, possibly use an intermediate location, like a USB Flash Drive.

Make sure that you don't have 'Nested' folders in your data files.

    Hi cyanna & TechnoMage2016,

Thanks for your replies. In reply, I managed to transfer all the files from the external hard drive to a internal drive in my PC. It took quite awhile, but I got there.

    Cheers
