Does windows update or virus scan run in hibernate or sleep mode?
Does windows update or virus scan run in hibernate or sleep mode?
No.
Hibernation is full power down with memory saved in a file. No programs can run.
Sleep mode is a low power state with most devices off. No programs can run.
Scheduled Tasks can wake the PC and run programs.
Since day #1, both Hibernate and Sleep have been problematical, so on all my 20 PC's they are permanently shut OFF. That's the only totally SAFE setting.
Nowadays, hibernate may not be any help, and waste a lot of storage space and battery life (when using battery), especially for laptop & netbook.
Windows Update.
If you want to do windows update automatically, go to Windows Update, change the setting on the time.
The time should be when you are using the laptop.
It will update in the background, without you knowing it.
Only if the update is require to install, when you want to do Shutdown, it will inform you there is a update ready to install.
Best method.
Remove hibernate.
When you start or open the netbook, this hibernate start and may take some time before you can use the computer.
