Laptop randomly shuts off completely with no warning

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out this issue. So this week my laptop would completely shut off with no notice like "Windows is shutting down". I only had a few things open at the time and it totally cut the power. My laptop was plugged in as usual charging. When I turned it back on check disk found some errors which it fixed and for a day or two everything was fine until it happened again yesterday. I'd like to find the issue before this becomes more serious.

Last night I did take a look at event viewer. I had an error 6008 about when the crash happened. And then a critical event 41 which seems to be related to the crash too. One other thing that I found when it first happened this week is this entry here which I'm unsure if I should be worried about.

My laptop is a Dell inspirion N7110 running Windows 7 Home Premium which I've had for about four years now. If there's anything else you need to know let me know.

I found this thread, googling the Even 37 Kernel Processor Power error.

Do you have a hardware monitor?
CPU clock can be lowered if temperature is high.
I use this one Downloads - Open Hardware Monitor
It shows the temp on the panel and log CPU temp and clock.
On settings turn on when Windows start and choose to show the temp.

I just did the Dell support assist diagnostic test. The hard drive failed the SMART test and the recommendation is to replace the drive. I'll run check disk and see if that could resolve the issue or not. I'll run Seatools as well.

I'm really not sure if this is even related to the current crashing issue.

Edit: Attaching the disk check results for the first time it crashed and the 2nd time I checked it (yesterday). I ran Seatools before running disk check again and it failed in two parts(forgot which) but it passed the SMART test. I'll re-run it again later and see if disk check helped if at all.

    Code:
    Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
    Volume label is OS.

One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You
may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended
    that you continue.
Windows will now check the disk.

When it shuts off, does it just go black suddenly and power off completely or does the system go through a shutdown sequence?

This was happening to me, check your Task Manager and power settings. Sometimes your power settings will shut off the PC, once or twice I found an entry in Task Manager that was shutting me down. was from a hardware monitor app I had installed, would shut down if my system got above a certain Temp. There are also settings for this i the power section of your Motherboard BIOS. It's for safety, but you can set the temp a little higher and see if it still happens.

Open hardware monitor is also great, I recommend that as well. I had it set up so I could log into it remotely.

PS, man you had a lot of stuff happening in that CHKDSK, did you run the full scan or the quick scan, I'd do a full scan if you haven't

This issue of yours is that you are using both battery and main power supply.

When you switch on with battery alone.
And later if you see the battery % drop, insert the power cable .
Some laptop will still continue to use the battery.

Once the battery is 0%, the system just cut-off totally.
And most probably the power kick in to charge the battery.

So it is best to monitor the % of the battery.

You have 8 KB in bad sectors. It means that your disk is dying.
Boot from an Linux USB flash disk and save your data ASAP.

Buy a SSD to replace the HDD. I have one of this:PNY CS1311 2.5" 240GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SSD7CS1311-240-RB - Newegg.com
    So far so good.
As you have only 103 G on disk I'll suggest to by a 240 G.

Hello, the laptop cuts power so the screen goes straight to black, power button off, as well as all the other lights. There is no shut down sequence.

I've always used this laptop plugged in? The battery life is super bad on battery alone. I had to completely replace the battery last year...weirdly Dell is giving me a warning in the Dell diagnostics test to replace the battery again??? If it suddenly shut off because I accidentally unplugged the adapter then it'd warn me to plug it back in well before then, which it has in the past.

The first check disk was done by the computer when it first crashed this last week. The second was a full scan that I scheduled.

Yeah I feel like I have more than enough proof that my hard drives just getting worse. I'll be getting another external drive to back up my laptop. I hope to just replace the whole laptop with a new one since it's four years old.

New laptops come with Win 10, but you can buy one with win 7 pro (difficult to find).
You have a very good one with Win 7 and i7.
    - You should install a hardware monitor (post 3) to see if the temperatures are high (above 80șC). It can be that the heat sink is clogged with dust.
    - Buy a SSD as I wrote on post 7. You have no idea what a SSD can do for you.
    - Battery life depends on charging cycles. It will last about 600 charges. If you want a battery to last forever, remove it when you are using the power supply and attach it when you taking the laptop with you.

In the scenario it is using the battery, not the power supply.
The only warning is on the taskbar, which can be easily overlook.

It did happened to me once, when i thought i was using power supply.

To save Battery power & long usage.

When using the main power supply, it is best not to have the battery slotted in laptop.

When to have the battery slotted in while using main power supply.
    1. When charging the battery. This can also be done when not using the laptop.
    2. Doing updates, and any other operation where if shutdown while processing.
