    Thanks :) I performed the clean install and now it's asking for the product key but it's completely rubbed off the back of the laptop. Is there any way to restore it or do I have to call Microsoft or dell?

    Phoning Dell is a good back-up, in any case
    Tell em you got done up like a kipper by malware and ask >> nicely << for a set of Re-installation disks,
    from what i gather there quite good.
    (you can use these for a system REPAIR)

    I managed to call dell and get some recovery media for my laptop. I had to pay but everything is fixed now, so its alright
