    Explorer.exe 0xc0000022 error message

    Hi,

A client of mine has an Acer Aspire One (Win7 starter) that keeps giving a black screen with mouse cursor when starting in regular mode. Whenever I try to start explorer.exe I get error message '0xc0000022'.

    I've tried/did following things:

    * installed malware bytes in safe mode (it turns out there were many malicious files/viruses). According to malware bytes everything is OK now

    * removed several unnecessary programs

    * did a sfc /scannow. (no problems whatsoever)

    * tried to start Windows with a minimum of services

    * check disk on errors using hdtune. No bad sectors

    * removed update kb2659262 (this update could be the problem to a faulty explorer.exe according to several users)

    * tried to install updates -which I first downloaded to another PC because updates don't work in safe mode-. It appears the updates could also not be installed in safe mode.

    * removed the disk and use an enclosure connected to another pc. Did a system check. No errors.

    Anyone any other suggestions?

    Thx!

    Ray

For some reason, you consider the problem is due to some software application/s.
It is much more likely to be a hardware problem.
Check all cables, connections and the memory sticks seating.
Also check the boot sequence in the Bios.

    Thx Guys,

I'm gonna check if the issue is hardware related although the pc runs very stable in safe mode w/ network (browsing and running problems without problems) so I doubt it has something to do with faulty cables etc.

Torchwood: I'm not able to get in normal mode due to the constant explorer error.. Is there another way to install the kb?

    Thx!

    Hi Ray,

as i said above updates CANNOT be run in safe mode.

I highly suspect there are still remnants/changes left behind from the malware.

You could try system repair from the advanced boot options
    or
Factory reset, (copy personal data first)
    or
    try this tool
