    COM surrogate has stopped working

I have machine with Windows 7 64 bit installed and recently started receiving the Message above about the COM Surrogate. I have tried numerous suggestions I found online with no success

I rolled back the video driver
    I removed dllhost.exe from "C:\Windows\Syswow64"
I did a windows recovery from days earlier
I updated the Windows 7 codecs
    I reregistered regsvr32 vbscript.dll & regsvr32 jscript.dll

Since it is happening on all my drives, I did not do a chkdisk. I do not remember installing anything new on the box. I am stumped and trying to figure out what I can try to fix this problem Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

Have you tried this one with the DEP setting?

It seems to me when I had a desktop machine with W7 the fix had to do with the DEP settings. But it has been a few years since I have owned a desktop PC.

I also seem to remember something about MS Word. It might have been that every time I tried to change the file association some COM components of Word put it back the way it was. There was something about unregistering the COM stuff in Word and having to do with COM surrogate. But it was some years back. Just a shot in the dark if you can find anything still out there on the web about it.
