Need to use laptop with damaged screen, External screen used previous.

I damaged a Toshiba Satellite Screen a couple of years ago, and used an external screen with a serial connection, It's replacement has had to go to the repair shop, and I have forgotten just how to do it and in the meantime it has been switched back so as to be looking at a butterfly wing of a screen that I can make no sense of.
I need to start again as a novice if there is any help to help me switch it to another display device, so that the young owner can access You tube and the Simpsons, or Steam boat Willie, or even Bugs and Elmer.
I also have this PC using W10.

Hi welcome to the forum

Hook up the external monitor to laptop and there should be a F key in conjuction with the fn key to have it switch to the external monitor.

Thank you Oscar1 - I have just hooked it all up, but the battery is duff, It had lost all its charge overnight, but I feel certain that the solution was very simple for a special lad to use. From the glyphs on the Fkeys it must be F5 this shows a laptop and a screen.
Unfortunately the lamp presumably representing the Hard Drive goes out after a few seconds after pressing start, whereas yesterday after an overnight Charge - I had no such problem. My son only ever uses his laptops on charge all the time - so once its up and running I will return to update this note. Than you Billz7

Try pressing windows symbol +P on your keyboard, you should get a ribbon bar type selector panel.Using arrow keys select "Projector only",followed by the "Enter" key. The laptop screen should go blank and the external monitor should light up.I regularly use my Satellite this way.
Good Luck

Thank you Uniman- I did use FN+F5 to get it to an external screen - and then I decided to try and connect it via Bluetooth so that I could use a keyboard "Iwant" from Currys there I met a temporary fault, while I could see I had a Blue tooth Icon I am not so certain if I have the program behind it. So it will have to wait for the moment.
I will be interested if anybody has removed the keyboard to clean it and find out why some keys don't work. - I can see that by removing a narrow plastic pop on/off bezel strip some small screws are exposed and then it may, if not further screwed, be possible to pull the Aluminum/metal keyboard tray forward and so free it from the body. Anybody done this.

Most likely if some keys don't work it will need new keyboard. But you could try blowing out the keyboard. Every laptop their are different mounting for keyboard what the model number of the laptop.

Hi Oscar 1,
Satellite L300- 1GB system unit Model No PSLB8E-06R007EN SN. 59197833Q the visible screen measures on the diagonal 15.4inches a small amount is hidden.
Failing all else I will give it a good blow with air or similar. I did get some typing with it, but got foiled on the separate keyboard link up and parked it up for now, until I can be certain it has or will get Blue tooth installed - I am hopeful as there is an Icon. - my next task with it will be to link up a separate keyboard. - but I don't have the time currently.
It is more compact and a metallic dull grey I quite like the solid feel and appearance than a later satellite which is currently back with the manufacturer's agent after 11 months, and is a black highly polished slightly bigger but thinner computer.
