Laptop restarted by itself, then error message : PCI vendor and device

Laptop restarted by itself, then error message : PCI vendor and device ID do not match

I just walked out of my room, then came back to find that my laptop had restarted itself and was at the boot up logo, except that the fans kept revving up and down (not normal) and it was taking forever to boot into windows. After a while, the boot up logo vanished and i got an error message saying that the PCI vendor and device ID do not match. After restarting twice, i was able to get into the BIOS, but the BIOS was lagging which was very unusual. After maybe 15 minutes or so, i was able to get into windows. Can anyone tell me what happened?

I am running win 7 64 bit. I did some searching and Intel says it is an issue with an intel lan driver, but i dont have an intel lan card in the first place...

Hello Q2 mate what are the temps on that CPU?? for starters. Use this and post back Speccy - Free Download - Piriform

Now I would also be running these if you can get into safe mode

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs (with a reboot between each one) – you can leave out the /r switch in ckdsk if you feel it not necessary

Temperature was about 65 degrees at the time. I was not running anything particularly demanding

Im not sure why system file checker and all that would help since this seems to be a BIOS error from what i can tell? Have you seen the PCI vendor does not match device ID error before?

Hmm temps a bit high for my liking that is at what you say is a low level operation. Have you checked to see if the air intake and fan are clean if not follow this
CLEANING A LAPTOP FAN & COOLER RAD
The thing you do is to turn over the laptop and shine a very bright light into the air intake aperture (you will see the fan there) and then while doing that look at the outlet vent on the end of the laptop you should see the light quite clearly shining through the cooling " radiator" if not it is clogged and will need cleaning as will probably the fan opening.
You can do this by blowing it out using a compressed air can in short bursts.
BUT ONE WORD OF WARNING*DO NOT blow the air into the fan opening without inserting say a plastic rod or large cable tie to stop the fan from spinning as the air blast will spin the fan at a very high speed that it is not designed to take and may wreck the bearing!!* There is also the fact that doing this can produce a voltage that can be up to almost 12v which while the fan is connected to the board will introduce that voltage into the machine and again can cause severe damage if not wreck the board and/or components.
To clean the "rad" I use those pipe cleaners to GENTLY loosen the crud and then blow it out*of course*disassembly makes life so much easier.

No mate I haven't come across that message to be honest at the moment I would be more concerned about that CPU temp.

Edit: Now do the temp bit first but then try this PXE E01 PCI Vendor and Device ID Do Not Match Error

As mentioned, it can be that your heat sink is blocked by dust and your CPU is running at high temperatures.
As it rebooted it can be a corrupted file or a disk problem. Run:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
    Disk Check chkdsk c: /f
