Windows is deleting icons from my desktop

About a month ago I lost my hard drive. Since I replaced it and reloaded Windows 7 Pro 64bit and let windows run all the updates, windows has taken it upon itself to start deleting icons from my desktop every few days. Even the ones I use on a regular basis. Sometimes it does it after an hour or so of inactivity and sometimes it does after less than 15 minutes of inactivity. I'm retired and the only user of this PC. How can I stop this most irritating action?

    Thanks,

Hi DavidMil and Welcome! You need to Remove the Desktop Cleanup Wizard Follow the instructions in the link and reboot the system. The icon issue should be resolved.

Hello David, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

In addition, you might also see if turning off the System Maintenance Troubleshooter may help.

    Hi,
Can you give a little more info about exactly where these files are = locally on the C partition or are they located on a external or separate disk or partition somewhere you just made shortcuts too ?

Just a thought. Would it make sense to run Chkdsk on a raid or not? And which switch should you use? /r

    EDIT:

I ran across this Chkdsk RAID or NOT?! Good information..
