Windows 7 security issue

I read this article this morning and it is making me feel quite angry and at the same time concerned of the consequences of not fully moving to Windows 10. If Windows 7's security is so outdated, why doesn't Microsoft make it as good as Windows 10's? - TechRepublic

It does seem to me that after a brief lull in trying to make people use Windows 10 Microsoft are now trying at the back door for want of a better analogy insomuch that they are cutting down the 7 support while support especially security for 10 is being ramped up leaving 7 to the attacks that may be waiting for just such a chance to make 7 less and less usable.

The other issue that I find really concerning is that Microsoft are also looking at making the usual way of buying a licence void - instead having to get a licence though some hell awful cloud based method. Now I say awful because I do not like the cloud as such because I do not fully understand it apart from I do not like the thought of my data being stored somewhere on some ?server and that to me spells open to anyone who may crack into it - not that my data would be of any interest to anyone but it is the principle.
Moreover if my and anyone elses data is stored on a cloud ?server what is the outcome of any reason that server or storage form going south.
