If you’ve never seen it before, those suffixes are just to resolve profile naming conflicts.

Specifically, I’ve noticed this happen after using the net user command to delete accounts. When a profile path happens to be registered (the path doesn’t necessarily have to exist) at the time you first login to an account, the profile folder will be suffixed with “.ComputerName”. Subsequent conflicts will be handled by appending a dot and an additional 3-digit zero-padded incrementer on to this, e.g., “User.ComputerName.001”, “User.ComputerName.002”, and so on. Don’t ask what happens when you reach a thousand profiles. I'll leave that for someone else to discover.

Try it. Create a user, “ExampleUser”, delete it with net user then recreate the user “ExampleUser”. It’s profile won’t end up as ‘C:\Users\ExampleUser’.

Perhaps the permission issue was a catalyst in this case. It’s easy to fix through trial and error.

Finally access. With a few aspects missing. Ran the first one but it wouldn't give access. Then the recursive one and it let me in with errors. Too tired to try to understand them but here is the err file. But what I am left with though is a working C: drive but my data is mostly gone. Like my profile has been stripped. Can't find any doc files or jpg files or xls files and all the programs are like they are newly installed. Hoping this is a recoverable glitch but I can mostly just congratulate you on writing a wonderful piece of code and you should be quite pleased with yourself. Running Winderstat to see what's seeable but I think bed is for me soon. So I will pick this up again tomorrow.

Error looks good. Well, not the error itself, but the fact that there’s only one and that it’s fairly negligible. I’m sure this will be last error we see from the script in a while—it’s just one minor oversight:

Cannot find path 'C:\.Bin' because it does not exist.

The path is supposed to be “C:\$Recycle.Bin” but PowerShell recognises dollar sequences as variables. I think you can see what happens here.

Be sure to check in all the user profiles under C:\Users.

FYI-
Was finally able to run Tweaking's Window Repair. It was like a bomb had gone off in the system. The repairs it made were staggering in scope. But 7 now seems happy and thus I am too.
Is this something I could promote for you in some way? I really would like to give a shout out but not sure what the appropriate way would be. Please suffice it to say I am stunned by the time you put into this and saved me from myself. Would love to know what happened but not a clue how to go about that. But again thanks so much. Lar

And thank you as well. I’m glad it happened that you were first to try out the script as the permission problem you’ve experienced was most extreme. I can now be optimistic the script is as robust as possible in terms of dominating permission settings. Nonetheless, it still has a little more tweaking to go before it’s ready for wide use.

I appreciate your gratitude. I plan to make a tutorial out of this script through this these forums where its mere publication makes it naturally subject to promotion. You’ve already contributed greatly to the development of this script and I ask for no more.

For now, I’m going to request this discussion be moved to it’s own thread so that it can be found more easily. Meanwhile, I’m going to take down the links to the PermissionPackage scripts soon so that I can made further amendments on the backend.

Once a proper tutorial is finalised I’ll provide a link to it here and also in the original thread.
