Hi There
Have read as many of these as I could find time for. And hopefully I have plunked this into the correct place. And in fact, I think I have returned to the original place after only deleting a profile and a couple other embarrassing self-abuses. And as was said I too should not, especially when tired be allowed to "click" on interesting things. But it is what it is and I will attempt to define the problem.
I have always had the problem of Win7 changing permissions on me. Where I will go try to see something and find the sharing changed. So I think I must have clicked on something bad out of frustration and now am left with several interesting dilemmas.
I am completely locked out of C:\ Note the capture which states notes C is full and empty at the same time. Also BTW Speccy says the drive is healthy.
And while I can see by some programs and in cmd there are two partitions and they both have substance for the most part they are inaccessible. For example, photoshop runs, it's not happy but it does. I have access to notepad and windows accessories and such. So I think I didn't screw it up terribly but I have no idea what to do next. I would love to dl the program you guys suggest. However, NOTHING is allowed to dl. Just immediately cancels.
Also in Admin though it accepts my PW I try to open pretty much ANY tool in Windows by way of the run panel and am denied.
I do have access to CMD as admin but do not have access to C: even there. In fact, when it opens it goes to
C:\Users\Administrator.Lar-PC.001> which is just head scratching stuff.
I have collected as much data to show as I thought would be helpful. Hopefully, I have uploaded it correctly.

Good news, Fotog673, and great timing. You can be the first pragmatic user to try out my latest piece of scripting work I call the ‘PermissionPackage’, a silver bullet to all permission problems.

But before I hand anything out, I would like to know what the extent of damage is like. Namely, is it just C drive you’re having problems accessing? Do you recall what things you did the moment you began to have the permission issue? The fewer locations that need fixing, the faster the script can complete (and the lower the potential entropy of further problems that may come out of this becomes :)).

To answer your questions I looked at all aspects of my machine.
1. It is possible I got so sick of having to re-ask for permissions I tried yet again to take permission of C:\ but I can not be completely sure as I have been wrestling with the results for three days now.
2. I have access to all other drives BUT C:\
3. I think any results from this can be just the ability to pull my current data from C: and I will be happy. As is always the case I have learned so much in the past year (since the last install of 7) I think I should ultimately just pull the data if I can, and do a fresh install. Thank you.

By the sounds of it, your points 1 and 2 would reinforce that C drive is the only affected location, but point 3 suggests that you might be experiencing access problems elsewhere as well. Either way, you should benefit from the files I have linked, assuming you’ve straightened out the download barrier you had mentioned.

Download and execute PermissionPackage_win7+.bat. This will restore permissions on C drive to its default configurations and is sure to give you immediate access it.

If instead the problem is more widespread than phrased, then run PermissionPackage_r_win7+.bat. This will restore all default propagating permission settings under C drive.

Went to another computer and dl'd both on flash. Ran one at a time with no joy. Next placed both on a second HD and ran both again no joy. I believe I was able to see a quick error message but it is gone so quickly I couldn't be sure. I just don't know what else to try.
So many references to what seems like the correct disk info and free space I hated to give in and reformat. Afraid to lose images and other things stored there to replace with fresh 7 or 8.1.

Yes, that would be the current implementation’s behaviour. As I’ve tested it on both a Windows 10 and Windows 7 machine, I didn’t expect any misbehaviour on yours, but remember, you’re the first one to put this to practical use, so expect errors at this stage. It’s good that this error is happening now though.

I need to see what the error says. I’ve amended the file to write to an error log at “%temp%\pp_err.txt”. Would you be able to download and run only the first script again and retrieve this “%temp%\pp_err.txt” file for me?

I encourage you not to give in to a format because you’re not in a huge pickle, believe me. And by helping me diagnose the error you encountered, you’re potentially helping a lot of people in future.

Happy to. Just have to wait until tomorrow as I can not dl anything. But in hopes I can avoid a format I will gladly do it. Do you want me to insert the line and try or wait?

No need to modify anything, I have updated the files at the source. Download and run the first file again, from post #44, then navigate to ‘%temp%’ and locate the ‘pp_err.txt’. Upload this file here.
