Files copied to Windows 10 boot drive missing!

Meant to post this in Windows 10 forums but I'm still waiting for the registration email!

I do a lot of data recovery jobs and often find the quickest way to transfer large amounts of data is to pull the boot hdd/ssd from the working computer, plug it up to the computer I use for the recovery and then copy over the files with SATA speeds.

However, since Windows 10, I find that the copied files are not there when I replace the drive and boot the customers computer. I might have copied 500Gb of data but it does not show or register when I check the used space on the drive.

In the past I have noticed that they turn up in the root of C: in a hidden folder called '$Found' (or something like that) and I have to adjust the permissions to open it and get the contents. This folder doesn't always exist though.

There is, of course, no problem if I copy the files onto the target drive via USB if it is on and booted to Windows. It's just a slower process, especially if the computer doesn't have USB3.

Anyone know why this happens??

your registration is probably in your junk/spam folder,

my first guess what ever program your using to copy data isnt quite w10 compatable, any comments on thier forum

Win 10 on your computer or on the client drive computer?
The copied files that aren't where they should are those you copied from or to your client drive?
Have you seen if Explorer is set to show hidden and system files on both computers?

$Found files where data recovered from lost clusters on a FAT disks. NTFS doesn't have lost clusters to recover.
