Problem with Maximized windows overtaking others.

I've been having the problem where windows that aren't maximized are being overtaken by windows that are maximized. It's only been doing this recently and I've run a system scan with my antivirus (malwarebytes) and nothing came up. To give and example of what I mean, lets say I have microsoft Word maximized in the background, and I open firefox in a window in front of it, after a few seconds it will be overtaken by the Word window. All help is appreciated and if you need more details I can provide them.

    OS: Windows 64bit Home.

    Welcome to the Forum

I have seen this post go unanswered for a day or so and have given it thought. I do not think that the problem is caused by the screen underneath, but rather by the browser window (firefox, in your case)
Lets do a little test. Use Edge or Internet Explorer for a while, does the problem still exist?

Hi CaloNord, welcome to 7F! :)

Help me out here, I'm going to change your wording and you tell me if it still means what you're trying to say.

To give and example of what I mean, lets say I have microsoft Word maximized in the background,
You're working with Word, it's the only program open and it's maximized, then you need to open Firefox (FF).

and I open firefox in a window in front of it, after a few seconds it will be overtaken by the Word window.
FF opens and covers Word, but in a few seconds Word appears and covers FF. In other words; one program has display priority over another. When Word appears does it happen quickly or is it slow like a fade-in effect?

For now, the only thing I can think of is that there is a setting in Word that forces the focus back to Word if there is another program open. I don't use Word so I don't know if there is a setting that will allow that.

    More questions,

    • Is Word the only program that does this, what version are you using?

    • Lets say the roles were reversed and FF is opened first, would FF appear over Word?

    • In your original scenario, after Word does its thing and you minimize Word, is FF still open?
