Navigation Pane - How do I change the emphasis from details to tree

In Windows XP, whenever I activate explorer.exe and specify my D drive (using this as my command:
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,D:\) the result is that my D drive is at the top of the tree structure on the left, the Details pane is on the right, AND the D drive root in the Tree structure is highlighted so that the tree structure on the left is the primary focus. When I rotate the wheel on my mouse, the left side tree structure moves up and down. However, when I execute the same command in Windows 7, the emphasis not on the tree structure, BUT on the details pane instead. So, when I go there and rotate the mouse wheel, it is the contents of the Details pane that moves up and down instead of the tree structure on the left! How do I get Windows 7 explorer.exe to shift its primary focus to the tree structure, rather than the details pane, without having to "click" on the D drive root entry in the tree structure to affect the change?
I have tried numerous command line options and combinations (including /root and /select) but I have not succeeded in making this happen.
