Black background after power outage

The power went out for two seconds before coming back on while I was using my computer and now I do not have a background wallpaper on my desktop. My background is black. All my icons and everything works except the background.

Changing themes does not work. still black.

I Googled the problem but only results about the entire screen being black, and results about the background is the only thing that shows. Both being power outage related, but there is nothing about no background and the background being black after a power outage.

Does anybody know what the problem could be after this outage?

If you in Win 7 just head over to your screen saver settings, select power management (or get there in control panel). Now select custom or advanced and look for the desktop settings - Power Options - Add or Remove "Slide Show"

Also, if your copy of Windows is not registered this will happen as well. But to fix that you need to search for something else.

Sounds like some system files could have been corrupted.
Try running the command
sfc /SCANNOW

three times in a row. See if it replaces corrupted system files.

Even a "cheapie" UPS is worth its weight in gold. The first time I bought one was right after I got a momentary power glitch just after installing OS/2 from diskette(13 3 1/2" floppies IIRC.) Unfortunately the glitch happened while I was booting. I had to do the install all over again. As soon as I had things back together I hopped in the car a bought a $300 UPS.

But even one that does not "condition" the power is better than no UPS at all. I assume you had the issue on a desktop PC and not the Laptop. In any case to save yourself this aggravation in future I would keep an eye out for a UPS of sufficient size on sale. Most of the time you get a power glitch it will be for a few seconds. So you don't really need a UPS with an hour reserve to prevent most of these file corruption issues. It just has to keep the machine running long enough for you to save your work and do a smooth shutdown.

Also happens if it decides your OS is non-genuine,
control panel >> system, is the Blue genuine logo there?

power outages ARE a pain, they muck up everything

Using a day old before the power outage "Restore Point" might also solve the problem.

Sometimes the bios will have to be set at default again.
