Mike, what do you mean by Font size view?
Hi Ranger 4. I was missing your point Ranger 4. You were suggesting using the changing of the font size as a way around the problem. The reason that this wouldn't work is that I have 12 point type as the default type size in all my programs. I very rarely save anything in notepad, I just use it to copy and paste from.
So I have to find the underlying cause of the problem.
Thanks for getting back to me Ranger 4.
The font size is 12 point. I knew how to change that - there's not much that I don't know about notepad.
Increasing the font size to enlarge the text displayed will not help - I use 12 point type on all my programs. Notepad is almost always used just for copying and pasting to these other programs. It would be too slow to keep changing font size.
As I said before previously notepad was set to 12 point type and large text was displayed. Now it's still set to 12 point and I'm getting very small text displayed.
However, I've had a good thought.
I've said that when this change occurred I had made no alterations to hardware or software. I've just recalled that my son had made an alteration - he had done some updates. This has me very suspicious. (My son helps me but he can't solve this notepad problem.)
More news Ranger 4:
I've tried opening some old notepad files. They had previously displayed large text while set at 12 point font size. They would paste into other programs at 12 point. When I opened them now they displayed small text.
Also, I recall that notepad also previously printed in large text, when font size was 12 point. Not good, but I hardly ever printed from notepad - as I said I used to use it for copying and pasting from into other programs.
I usually put text into notepad to strip unwanted graphics.
The change must have come about with the upgrades.
Thanks very much for all your help. I'm very grateful.
mike. While on the text size issue, I had a look back at Notepad documents that I had saved back in April 2013 & compared then to documents saved in Feb 2017 & the text size is identical.
I keep my computer up to date with all the Updates, so if you find an update that has caused this problem I ma sure it would be of interest.
I've given up Ranger4.
I'll just have to put up with the small type.
Thanks again
Roll your scroll wheel while holding CTRL. It will zoom you in or out on most programs without changing the actual size of objects, only the perceived size.
If your son had done some Windows updates then try a system restore to the point before the updates and see if that cures the problem. Winows auomatically creates a rstore point before installing any updates. If this cures the problem, reinstall the updates one by one and test each time to see if the problem returns. Then you will see which particular update is at fault!
It doesn't matter what font size you use in your other programs - Notepad only deals with straight-up ascii, and strips out all formatting of font size/face/attributes, coming and going. If your Notepad font is size 18 pt Deja Vu Sans, and you paste into, say Word that is using 12 pt Times Roman, it will be 12 pt Times Roman. If you cut out of Word using 12 and paste it into NP, it will appear as 18. NP's font size/face is simply for its own display.
