STILL can't get rid of desktop icon shadows

I've read every post I can find about turning off the shadows on the text of desktop icons, and Windows 7 seems to insist on not letting me do it.

I have the "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" (AND "Show shadows under windows") unchecked. I've tried it with and without Aero disabled. My icons are not auto-arranging. I've switched to just using solid color backgrounds instead of any sort of graphic wallpaper. I've tried using Iconoid to set the icon text color and transparency. I've rebooted before and after all these settings. Nothing seems to work/help.

I'm currently running with the medium (puke) green desktop background simply because it's what the icon text looks best on for me. I'm definitely not in love with the color, and I'd like to change it as soon as possible. Of course, on light backgrounds, the shadow is worse, making the text nearly unreadable. But, oddly, it's also really bad on dark backgrounds (like the dark purple).

About the only that that is guaranteed to eliminate the shadows is unchecking the "Use visual styles on windows and buttons"... which, of course, also eliminates all of the things I like about Windows 7... so that's not really a viable solution for me.

Has anyone found something that works?

    Thanks!
    -Carl

    Hello Carl,

You might see if using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below may be able to get rid of the desktop icon shadows afterwards.

Desktop Icon Labels - Turn Drop Shadows On or Off

    Hope this helps,

Doh! That works nicely, Shawn, thank you so much!
That page never came up in my Googling. It would've saved much frustration, and much of my hair. :)

    Thank you again!

Hello Mohamed Khadar, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Could you post a screenshot and give some more details about your issue? It may not be quite the same, and this could help. :)

Does not work for me either, under Windows 8.1. Shadows are constantly off but going to logon screen and back brings the shadows back. The checkbox does not affect anything. Reboot or killing Explorer helps, but is there a way do do it without reboot or relogin? Why the shadows reappear when going to login screen and back?

Why this bug is still in Win 8.1?
