dwm.exe causing windows aero flickering issues
For some reason dwm.exe is now causing windows aero flickering issues in win 7 64 bit. When i mouse over an icon on the taskbar and the preview window pops up, after a few seconds there will be a split second flicker and the preview window will dissapear. When this happens, dwm.exe in task manager goes from 1% cpu usage to 0%, and then back to 1%.
This is aero specific and has nothing to do with my graphics card, etc. I have an intel HD 4600/GTX 770M, i can run furmark, etc with no issues.
Tried latest graphics drivers, same issue. Downgraded to last known good drivers, same issue.
sfc /scannow shows no issues.
Stopping/restarting the dwm service doesnt do anything.
GPU speeds all seem normal.
The windows aero troubleshooter finds no issues.
There are no errors in event viewer nor am i getting any error messages or popups at all.
There is no overheating. Mem/CPU usage is all fine except for dwm.exe dropping to 0% for a split second which seems to be causing the problem, but priority is already set to high and changing it to realtime or normal doesnt fix the problem.
This seems to be a similar issue : Flickering windows, when Online... Games and Net Browsers, but there is no solution.
I can disable aero, but thats just a workaround and doesnt solve the issue with aero flickering. There is absolutely no flickering or anything when aero is disabled.
I already have nvidia control panel and power options set to run at max performance.
Laptop is a clevo p15sm.
Anyone have any ideas? Is there a way to reinstall dwm.exe or the associated files without reinstalling windows from scratch?
Edit : Interestingly, as long as i have the DWM service (and process) running, even if i run a program with "disable desktop composition" which sets windows to the basic theme (and therefore, not running in aero), the screen flicker still occurs...and it stops immediately once i disable the service.
