Mysterious files with names like 000c3b669755dcf in My Documents

I know its a bad title but I'm lost on what to call it.

Anywho, I support my company's computers and one of my users reported a collection of detritus appearing my My Documents.

I thought it strange that the file name and author were the same as well.

I haven't the foggiest idea what would cause this or how to prevent it. Sure I could simply delete the files an hope for the best but I was hoping the community may have some insight as to what we're looking at here.

Many thanks for any help

Ok wow. So I dug more into this and I failed to notice that this view was sorted by author.
So it's showing a list of documents by author name.

I've never seen this before.

Mystery solved.

Sorry to be a bother.

Can you use or read the files OK? It looks similar to files being encrypted by ransomware

How do I get rid of files with illegal names
My backup program (WDSmartware) created several temporary folders and files with illegal names ending on a period. Explorer is unable to delete these folders and files; it gives an error message that it cannot find them (but they are displayed in Explorer and occupy space). How do I get rid of them?

Mysterious files
Hi, I was looking for a particular file in my Windows folder and came across some strange looking files of which I am suspicious (see attached jpeg). They are each about 1K, without extensions. I have not opened them to see what's in them, but I use Norton Internet Security and have it constantly...
