    Program Files folder

    Hello,
I tried to change default directory of Program Files and Program Files(x86). It is easy. We need to change registry keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion of ProgramFilesDir (x86) and ProgramFilesDir. But what about ProgramFilesPath (%ProgramFiles%)? After changes applied as above some programs wont start. For example Gadgets or IE.

Microsoft does not recommend or support this procedure. The option is provided to meet exceptional needs but is not appropriate for general use. The same is true for many other options in the registry.

    See this for further information:

Unfortunately many Internet articles don't mention this.

+1 on not moving Program Files or Program Files (x86) because of the reasons given in the given URL and other places. Some installs are hard-wired for default locations of Program Files & ...(x86) -- and will not cooperate with non-standard environments.
