    Notepad disappeared from SendTo

After my wife's recent update of her windows 7 machine Notepad has disappeared from the Context Menu > Send To list. Any ideas?

    Hello Jim, :)

Notepad is not in the "Send To" context menu by default, and is why it may have been removed after the update since the update most likely did a reset to default for this.

You can add a shortcut of "C:\Windows\notepad.exe" to the "shell:sendto" folder to add it back though.

If you like, here's a "Open with Notepad" context menu you might see may work for your needs.

    See the tutorial here:

To Manually Restore Send to Context Menu Items -Option One - Step Three

Or to open that folder type shell:sendto in the Start > Run dialog box. Put a shortcut to notepad inside.

EDIT: Brink posted the easiest method!

That worked. Thanks. I now think I remember doing that before.

The send to menu is a user defined configuration after all, updates should never touch that, there is no reason for tampering with user settings at all. I doubt it was actually the case, but something else did it. Just a guess of course.

Could be, but it wouldn't be the first time a Windows Update has reset something back to default.

Certainly possible, but it doesn't means that such an tampering of user data should be tolerated at all. It would be useful to know which update exactly contains such faulty behavior so we can prevent it to affect more systems.
