    Missing Folders and Files

I have a Lenovo PC running Windows 7. Just had 'User profile service failed logon' error. I followed the instruction to do a registry edit and now can log in and all works again but all the folders and files that were on the desk top have disappeared.

It's not a big problem as the PC is rarely used so the files are few, I also have duplicate files but before I up load them I just wondered if they are still there somewhere just not visible.

    They are probably under \Users\name
You must modify Explorer View to enable them to be seen.
Open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Folder options. On the View tab
    - Hidden files and folders - Show hidden files, folders and drives.
    - Unmark hide extensions of known files.
    - Unmark hide protected operating system files

    Search for the files on
    \Users\name\Desktop
    and
    \Users\Public\Desktop
