As far as I can recall there was never any viewable clipboard shipped with windows, I do remember a set of Microsoft developed Power Toys, that added items to XP that were usable on later versions that may have contained an advancement to the basic Clipboard , but I think the Clipboard viewer was actually an add on installed with early versions of Office or Office applications such as word and excel.

As many systems sold with windows were also supplied with some form of office, even if this was only a trial the addons remained after the trial It could be that everyone is correct

The Clipboard exists in Windows 7 and in newer versions of Windows. It is the clipboard that provides the ability to Cut, Copy, and Paste between applications and most use it for internal operations as well. The Microsoft article linked to in post #8 isn't referring to the clipboard itself but "clipbrd.exe", the clipboard viewer. This utility allows viewing the contents of the clipboard without pasting it anywhere. It is not present in Windows 7.

But all versions of Windows clipboard can contain only one item at a time. Copying an item to the clipboard replaces the previous contents. There is third party software that extends this functionality.

clipbrd.exe exists in XP but there is no shortcut provided to it.

That the clipboard exists in all windows is a given, but was not sure whether the enhancement to it that allows you to View / Edit / and store, more than one "item" was ever included in a default install, I will accept that it was in XP, but still have the nagging memory of adding it, (maybe an option turned off by default in the Pro versions I was used to, or maybe a choice made when building the image used for deployment)

If it is Clipboard or not, I do not know, what is in a name?
When I select a text wherever and type Ctrl c I have it and can paste it everywhere.

The issue here is not the ability to copy and paste an item, any single item may of course be copied into the clipboard, and pasted elsewhere. what the original questions is about is collecting MORE than one item from different places and pasting these back later

Without an add-on the clipboard in Windows 7 will delete the first item copied when you copy a second, and again ad-infinitum, back in XP it was possible to collect more that one item in the clipboard

    As I suggested before.
Try coping and pasting to Notepad or Wordpad. Both come with the Windows 7 installation.

The way I understand how this works.
When you copy, Windows 7 puts it in ram.
When you paste, Windows 7 takes it from ram and puts it where you choose as long as it's a place that will accept it.

NotePad and WordPad can save many things. Mostly documents.

When pasting it do not disappears from ram.
I remembered that I could do what I asked long ago but I am forgotten how.
Mayba the best is to take another clipboard manager program.
Thanks to all for the info
