Losing window focus when I click on it

Hello, this is my first post so please excuse my manners.
As the title states, I cannot click on windows, lest I lose focus of the window. This means I have to use win+3 to open the browser, and then press Tab like a maniac to get anywhere.
Given that it is a laptop, I do not know how to unplug the keyboard. Other than the mouse behavior, everything seems to work.
Have you seen anything like this? I haven't restored the system yet because I have work, so I'll try that later.

could be a mouse problem. Try using the keyboard to do start > run > devmgmt.msc > enter to open device manager, tab down to the mouse area and select uninstall, then shutdown. At this point, if your mouse is a usb mouse, unplug it and re-plug it back in, preferably in a different usb port if you have one. Then turn the machine back on and let it reinstall your mouse driver.

or it could also be a problem with a startup program or non-microsoft service. Try a clean boot
