Will W7 C: drive from Gateway DT be swapped to an HP DT and run?

I want to know if the "swap" will work?

I have a Gateway Profile 6.5 Duo that runs fine under Windows-7.

I want to move to a faster HP Quad.

I have so much stuff on the Gateway that just thinking about what can or should be moved is daunting.

I'd really like to unplug and re-plug if that is possible.

If not, what might be the "next" easiest approach?

    Best regards,

    - It may find some different drivers, but as both are Intel, it my run and load the correct drivers.
    - The main problem is that one is Gateway and the other is HP. Different brands = different licenses. It won't activate.

You should clone the Gateway before trying to install it on the HP. This kind of experience my result on a unbootable drive.

Unlikely in practice due to different hardware, and as stated you would need to purchase a New OS as neither is transferrable ( both are licenced for the one system only)

If you decide to purchase a brand new OEM or retail Windows 7 -- Newegg or Altex Electronics are two true-blue sources that I know about.

The Gateway Windows-7 install was from a Dell OEM CD that I purchased online from Trinity Software.
I appears to have worked just fine for over three years.
Does this play into the Reply Scenarios that have been posted so far?

The Dell OEM disk is from a time when they still supplied standard Installation media rather than the now standard "Recovery" Software, and the Licence Key shipped with the Gateway or another System Builders Key then it would be legit, otherwise it could be illegitimate and activated by some other method. If the trinity software is the Microsoft Partner then I would expect it to be legit but also surprised that they used a Dell OEM Install Media
