Computer immediately reboots after Safe Mode login

My computer is unresponsive at login. I tried to login using Safe Mode but as soon as I enter the password the computer reboots. I thought I could get around this by changing the boot tab in the MSCONFIG to safe mode with minimal configuration. Now even F8 won't let me re-enter the normal mode and I'm 100% stuck in an infinite loop of restarting the computer, it automatically enters safe mode regardless of what I select at the F8 screen, windows comes up, I enter the password, and it immediately reboots into safe mode again. Any ideas short of reinstalling the OS?

I already tried a system restore. System restore claimed it worked but the system is still booting into safe mode with the infinite loop.

msconfig/Boot/Safe Boot needs to be un-checked and then reboot.

I appreciate the attempt, but this missed the point of my question. If my question is unclear please let me know and I will try to reword it.

My impression was that you are stuck in safe mode as per your post #1.

    Let me rephrase then.

My computer was running poorly. I was unable to uninstall what I believed to be the offending program so I decided to restart, hit F8, and start in safe mode. My computer boots in safe mode, takes me to the login/password screen, I type in the password, and instead of giving me a desktop the computer reboots. I cannot get IN to safe mode.

I restarted normally, waited a very long time until I could open MSCONFIG, selected safe mode minimal boot, and restarted. The computer again booted to safe mode, gave me a login screen, and after entering my password immediately rebooted. Once again, I cannot get IN to safe mode because the computer reboots as soon as I hit enter for my login password.

I then tried to undo what I did, I hit F8, selected start normally but that defaults to the boot tab from msconfig, which I last set at start in safe mode minimal. I tried system restore. At the conclusion of system restore I received a message that the system had been restored. When I went to start the computer it in fact had NOT been restored. Once again, regardless of what I do the system boots in safe mode, gives me a login screen, I type my password, and the system reboots before I get a desktop.

I have never had a computer where F8 give you a option of Safe Mode.
That being said I have only owned a few computers.

Did you or did you not read and understand this tutorial I posted?

This is happening to me too, although I didn't use msconfig so I can still boot normally just fine. But every time I try to log in to safe mode it just reboots. Tried removing my password and now it reboots as soon as it loads the login screen.

I would try System Restore again, and AGAIN if necessary, until you see the acknowledgement that it did indeed work.

EDIT: By the above I do not mean to "keep going back" one-after-another SR as Snick says, only to get it to work once!

You loose everything from now to the past system restore, if you keep going back you loose more and more.
Repair Install maintains all your programs, files, folders, music, pictures, just replaces the OS, and makes a backup, Windows.old.
Piece of cake I do them all the time!
You can then use DISM++ or Simplex Pack to install updates.
