Windows 7: How to bring life back to .bat files

How to bring life back to .bat files

I hate Forums. What people don't know is that the word "forum" comes from the Latin word "forfrustrationum" which roughly translates into something between "your worst headache" and "bÍte noire". However, this one saved my Keister after I failed to set a backup/restore checkpoint before I tried to change the default application that edits .bat files. My screen saver (gPhotoShow) can execute a .bat before+after the slideshow and I got tired of using Notepad. After I broke the "Open With", I was unable to find any way to fix it, and Microsoft had decided to remove all of the checkpoints - all of them - after the last OS update.

I joined this Forum to express my appreciation for the "" webpage. I took the common-sense steps I didn't take the first time and then downloaded the .bat Registry file. I'm somewhat familiar with .reg files and was impressed with the one for .bat files. I executed it and ran a Sysinternals tool to check for changes in file associations. The result was that there was no change - i.e., the .reg file fixed the association back to what it was at 1:00 this morning.

Again, Thank You
