Log-on message about incorrect password, but it’s not

When I start up Windows 7, I get a message informing me of an incorrect user name or password. This has happened only since I changed my Administrator password a few days ago. (There are no other users of my laptop).

Under the message, I can click “OK” and that takes me to the log-in field. There, my newly abbreviated administrator name appears and the system successfully (but slowly) logs me on after I’ve typed in my new password. (Before I changed the password, I never had to type any password at all. Actually, I now think it’s a good idea to do so).

Under the login field, there is always a link to reset the password. And under that, a link to change the user. To get rid of the problem, should I simply reset with a completely new password here?

I don’t understand why my new, two-day-old, administrator password is not recognised immediately when I start up Windows each day.

    Thanks in advance

Only thing I can think of is did you use any third party log-on tool before you added the password. What could be happening is something is automatically still supplying the old credentials to windows, which fails of course and you then adjust accordingly and it goes through
