    Windows Module Installer Issues

Hi- I am trying to clear my CBS Logs out, but need to stop Windows Module Installer- but can't!... all of the

options are grayed out. This is the first time I have encountered this. It has something to do with Trusted

    Installer.

Could someone please help me out here?...Thanks!

    Hi Tim,

not sure why you want to delete logs there. Space i assume
BE advised the actual size of these are INCORRECTLY reported

There are 2 types of logs in it
    Text & persistant.

DO NOT touch the text file otherwise no updates.

Basically what happens is when the text file reaches a certain size it is compressed and changed to a persistant file.

    Now back to TI
Its the backbone for ALL program installations, and YOU DO NOT have permissions for it, hence its grayed out.
You can take ownership, but remember to revert these back.
read the first 6 or so replies in the revertion tutorial, Brink explains it nicely

I don't believe you offered an explanation as to why, all of a sudden, I cannot change the settings, nor stop

'Windows Module Installer' service... I finally fixed it, I think, but it was by messing around with various

ownership settings. I was hoping for a plausible explanation as to how it happened to get that way.

    Thanks

    YOU NEVER HAD PERMISSIONS

for TI or WMI, unless you changed them

OK, let me rephrase this... prior to last night, I was able to go into files- in this case, '%windir%\logs\CBS',

and do whatever I pleased- as long as WMI was stopped manually. If I changed to that level in the past,

so be it. I am attempting to explain that somehow it reverted back to its default. The grayed out boxes

within 'WMI' service properties NEVER were grayed grayed out prior, irregardless of whether privileges were

    in default, or user defined.

I can't make this any more clear, Roy.

    Thanks!
