How do I remove uninstalled programs from the Notification Area

I got a brand new Acer laptop. So far everything I have uninstalled has left icons in the Notification Area settings. I have tried the advice to delete the two registry keys and restart explorer, but that did not help. McAffe, Proshield, all the Acer software is still listed in the Customize area of the notification area options. How do I remove them for good?

Hello mscheaf, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

Resetting the notification area using the method in the tutorial below will remove the icons for these old uninstalled programs.

As I mentioned in the my OP, I tried the deleting of the two registry items and the restart of explorer and it did not work. So I have already tried what is in that link.

It wasn't specific about what you tried, so I posted it to verify.

Please try using the .bat file provided in the tutorial to see if it may work for you just to rule this out.

OK. I ran the bat file and it worked! I guess I did it in the wrong order manually. Thanks!

One more question though. It is related to this, but not exactly this so if I need to start a new topic let me know.

In the notification area there is an icon for the bluetooth radio and an icon for the bluetooth hosts process. I have disabled the radio icon from the bluetooth settings so it isn't there anymore. When I turn the BT radio off, the host process icon pops up. It looks like the normal BT icon except the "rune" is red instead of the normal white. It is basically a notification telling me that the bt radio is disabled. If I hover over it, the option is: turn on bluetooth. Is there a way to not have this show up?

    Great news mscheaf.

Yeah, go ahead and create a new thread for the BT icon. Be sure to include a screenshot showing it to see if it may be from a 3rd party software or driver.
