Probably a really dumb question...

For the guys who already know the answer to this question, I'll probably sound like a real Nube.

But, nevertheless, here's my question:

Every time I put any new drive on my system, whether it's a HD, USB Flash Drive, SD memory card or External HD...... windows will put a "System Volume Information" folder on the drive.
I'd like that to STOP. How do I do that?
And, I really do not want to turn off "System Restore". I use it often.

Any suggestions will be very welcome.

Well, "that drive" is not any specific drive. It might be a camera SD memory card, or a USB drive of which I have a dozen or more.

In fact, the SD memory card from my Digital Camera does have that folder on it and I can't delete it.
And when I plug that little SD card into my computer it does not show up in the list of drives in "System Restore".

I was just hoping that someone would know if there is a Registry key that I could edit, or something like that.

PS: I just let the camera FORMAT the little SD memory card, and the System Restore point folder is gone. So that solved that problem for the time being.

It is normal for that folder to appear when hidden folders and files are set to show up. That folder does no harm and, if you even could, removing it could cause problems. I would ignore it or, if it bothers you enough, go to Control Panel, Folder Options, click on the View tab, under Files and Folders, Hidden Files and Folders, click on Don't Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives, then click on Apply and then OK.

Hiding anything on my PC is just what I DON'T want to do.
When I set up this OS, I ran a script to UN-Hide system files, which is what I do on every PC I set up.

As I said in my last post, I let the camera Format the little SD card and that offending folder is Gone.
I just don't like things taking up space where it's not required.

Like, when I buy new USB Flash Drives, they often come with software pre-loaded on them, which I promptly Delete. I really hate it, like, when I buy a 32 GB flash drive and then I only have 29 GB of usable space. Argggg!

All seriousness aside (?), the reason for hidden files and folders is to keep people who don't know better from messing with vital files and folders the System needs to run properly. They rarely, if ever, eat up a lot of room on a drive. Keep in mind that most of those hidden folders and files are necessary for the operation of your computer and messing around with them could cause serious problems with your System and may even cause data loss.

Out of curiosity, I checked the System Information folder on all four of the drives in my computer and every one showed it taking up 0KB. Big deal! Even the hidden Recycle Bin on each drive holds very little. I dumped 4.54GB from one drive today and the Recycle Bin for that drive shows only 21.9 KB. Again, big deal! Today's drives, internal and external, are so large, the amount of space taken up by hidden folders and files isn't even a drop in a very large bucket and just isn't worth getting bent out of shape over.

I agree seeing them is annoying which is why I keep mine hidden. I unhide mine only when I need to get into my App Data folder, which is rarely.

Unwanted and/or unneeded programs, however, I can understand getting rid of since they do take up more room. I get rid of them, too.
