Windows stopped working, takes a long time to start web browsers

    Hi Everybody

I am new to this forum. By chance I found this forum and I think I have found correct place to learn about computers.

I have few problems in my laptop Windows 7

    Windows explorer stopped working
Cannot save files into CD, MP3 and USB
Once log into the computer, it takes nearly 30 minutes to access internet explorer, Opera and Mozilla Fire

Even though I can use internet through above web browsers, once in a way I find computer becomes slow or freeze.

    I did following.

    Scanned for Malwares
Checked Startup Services Checked Startup Programs Disabled Thumbnail Creation (Placed a check next on the box that says Always show icons, never thumbnails)

But I couldn't complete the System File Checker Scan run as it stopped half way. I did it few occasions without success.

On the Start Menu I typed cmd then right clicked cmd and chose Run As Administrator and typed sfc /scannow and pressed Enter. After that it stopped. In other words it ended as verification 47 completed. Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

    My Laptop

    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
    Acer Aspire 5741
    X64-based PC

I would much appreciate if anybody can give me some sort of solutions. Thanks and have a nice day!

    Welcome to the Forum.

Boot from an installation disk go to Repair open a CMD window
    Type:
    chkdsk C: /f

If it finds bad clusters and or bad blocks, your disk is dying. Replace the disk. My suggestion is to replace with a SSD.

If the disk is healthy, do a system file check
    Type
    sfc /scannow

If you don't have a installation disk

Burn a DVD or make a boot able USB flash disk.

A friend of mine had a similar problem recently. It was caused by something trying to load at startup, which hung the computer.

Here's what I did to fix it:

I went into Safe Mode by hitting F8 as soon as the HP splash screen disappeared.

Once in Safe Mode, I ran msconfig, disabled all non-Microsoft services, then rebooted into Normal mode. The computer was no longer hanging.

I then went back into msconfig and enabled all of the services which seemed necessary (AMD, Canon, and HP services). I left disabled those which seemed unnecessary (McAfee Application Installer Cleanup, AdaptiveSleepService, AdobeAcrobat and Flash Updaters, Coupon Printer Service, GamesAppIntegrationService, GamesAppService, all Google updaters, and TeamViewer).

I then rebooted and logged back into Windows. All is now well.

My guess as to what was hanging the computer? AdaptiveSleepService sounds like the culprit. I thought about reenabling more of the disabled services, but I figured that since everything was working ok, I wouldn't bother.

Sorry it took so long to get back. I was trying to do few things during last three days according to various instructions and after that was able to work past on the computer. But I couldn’t solve the problem of savings documents on the CD and USB and taking time to start the computer. Yesterday, I installed MacAfee and did some scan. I also noticed after installation of MacAfee it takes ages to start the computer and showing messages such as windows not responding and do you want to end the process etc. In other word when computer starts, it freezes nearly 20 to 30 minutes. I cannot click any icon and if I click above messages are appearing on the screen.

In one occasion when MacAfee disappeared from the task bar all of sudden Internet explorer, Opera and Mozilla Fire started to work fast.

Yesterday and today I waited nearly 30 minutes to start the computer and finally started it using safe mode with networking. I am at the moment trying to solve the main problem of taking time to connect to internet explorer, Opera and Mozilla Fire etc.

I also got the following message when I tried to save a document to USB and computer started to slow down.

    Window explorer has stopped working.

Thank you for asking. I did the following.

    chkdsk C: /f

I tried following several occasions for some reason I couldn’t complete it as it stopped halfway. It verified up to 47%.

    sfc /scannow

I also was trying to do few things and after that I was able to work past on the computer. But I couldn’t solve the problem of savings documents on the CD and USB and taking time to start the computer. I installed MacAfee and did some scan. I am at the moment trying to solve the main problem of taking time to starting the computer. Safe mode is fine.

Today I went through trouble shooting. It seems like finally I can save or transfer a document. I have to recheck it again whether that job is doing well. I noticed MacAfee is making my computer slow.

Defective hardware leads to software corruption. Laptops are more sensitive to hardware problems, specially disks.
The problems you are having may be due to disk problems. You MUST let chkdsk C: /f run till it finish the task.
If it took a long time and it "stopped" at 47% is already an indication that you have a defective disk. Hope you have your data backed up.
Don't waste your time looking for solutions till you have finish the disk check.
When it finish, pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks or bad clusters.
