Can only create files on the desktop

As the person who built my own computer and installed Windows 7 last month, admittedly for the first time, I should be able to right-click in any folder on my C drive and create a text file, bitmap image or LibreOffice document.

I tried creating a new profile in Windows 7 to see if my original profile was corrupt, but no. The new profile has the same problem. The only thing I can create in any folder on my C drive, apart from the Desktop, is another folder. I also can't add files in those folders to a zip file - I have to copy them to the Desktop first, which then allows me to archive them. Also, I can no longer install applications into "Program Files" but I *can* install them into "Program Files (x86)" but even there I can't create files.

This may or may not be related but I installed the "Add_Take_Ownership_to_context_menu.reg" file which did work for a while, but now when I try using it, it says "Application not found", even after re-applying the reg file.

Hi Jez,

See your dual booting, did you loose this after using XP??

W7 hates being No2 in the boot order, causes a lot of grief, is it?.

Fortunately I did not lose the dual boot. In fact, when I installed 7 after XP (fully updated), I did not even have to install EasyBCD. I did try Windows 8 first and that didn't dual boot until EasyBCD was installed. I went to 7 because I like the classic theme, and was pleased that it dual-booted no problem.
