Extended Desktop | Icons are Invisible

Hello, I have actually had this problem for quite a while. I have done a lot of research, but seems no one has quite the same problem I am having. Nor do any of the solutions for similar problems work.

I run 3 4k monitors off of a 980Ti graphics card. My monitors are set up as an extended desktop. Every time I power down my machine, and even sometimes when it goes to sleep. My third monitor turns off. It would be no big deal to go into the resolution settings to turn it back on, but when I do my desktop icons disappear. Its odd because it works fine with two monitors it gives me a hard time. The other strange part is that the icons are not gone (ie I can right click where they are supposed to be and it still gives me the option to open) they are just invisible. I can usually fight it by just back and forth extending and disabling the monitor, or ending and restarting explorer.exe copious amounts of times. Really it is just a pain in the butt.

I was just wondering if there was a way to make it so my third monitor never disables. If not if there was a way to make it so my icons don't go invisible or a better solution for making them come back.

I have three monitors at my job. I have never had the problem you describe; but I do have a different problem: the far-right monitor sometimes starts going on and off, on and off. The only way to fix this problem is to go into graphic properties, disable the monitor, and turn the power off on the monitor itself. I can then reenable it and turn the monitor back on, and everything is fine after that.

Getting back to your question: The only thing I can think of which might help you is for you to turn off all of the "power saving" settings, so that your monitors are always on. In other words, you don't want Windows to ever turn them off. Also, turn off all of the "auto sleep" and "auto hibernate" settings so that Windows is always on; you don't want Windows to ever put itself into sleep or hibernate mode.

If you will adjust your settings as I have described, I believe you might resolve this problem.

That would work, but this computers power consumption is off the charts and try to shut it off when I'm not using it.

There's no problem in my opinion with shutting the computer off on a regular basis. The problem is when you let Windows do the shutting off or the hibernating for you. I believe if you will disable all of the ways that Windows tries to do it, and just do it yourself as needed, the problem will likely be solved.

Okay, so I did all of that and did a manual shutdown and the problem still occurs.
