    Library and my documents

    Hi

Have been trying to tidy up my works pc and having deleted and updated all items in MY DOCUMENTS,
I also note there are several items in MY LIBRARY, which I do not want. My Question is this.
If I delete all the documents in MY LIBRARY, will this interfere with all items in MY DOCUMENTS?
I need to keep MY DOCUMENTS as it is. Sorry for rattling on and hope you can understand.
    Cheers.

Library folders doesn't exit. What you see are links to C:\users"name""folder"
You can create or delete a Library item.

I recommend you do a data backup before you begin.
Let say you want to delete Pictures library. Right click on Pictures library - properties.
Select the folders path that are included on the library and select Remove. You wont delete the files on the folder. You will remove the link to that folder.
Once you have removed all links it will ask if you want to remove the Library.

To make a new Library item.
Right click on Libraries - New - Library

In Windows 7, the Library is nothing more than a convenient group of shortcuts to various folders on your hard drive. The Library itself doesn't contain any files; the folders accessed via these shortcuts contain the actual files, because they are the real folders you see when you browse your hard drive with File Manager. You can delete/remove these shortcuts from the Library without hurting anything. You can also add shortcuts as desired to the Library.

When you say "MY LIBRARY", are you referring to the Library I have described, or are you referring to a folder on your hard drive called MY LIBRARY?

Hi Guys - appreciate the quick response.
Mr Jim - It appears to be "Libraries" - in 2 locations. One says My Documents
and other Public Documents. Its just there is a load of stuff in My Library
that is "all over the place" and I have them updated under MY DOCUMENTS FOLDER.
The stuff in The Library are all my old Documents etc.

    Thanks again.

    Hi,
If you have no files in the public listings just use the Locations and remove the public one

For the record the public area is for sharing files with other user accounts on the same machine.

@Issy1954. Just for your interest click on Computer, then click on Local Disc (C:), then double click on the Users Folder, then double click on your User Name (whatever that is on your computer) & you should see folders such as My Documents, My Music, My Pictures etc., which are actually where the files etc. for these items are actually located on the computer. As mentioned by mrjimphelps above.

If you double click on My Documents for example, it will open up all the documents that you have saved into the My Documents folder. So you can add documents from other folders if they are in the wrong group & they will show up in your Documents Library.

If you right click on say My Documents folder you will see Include in Library on the menu & if you move the mouse down to it it will then open a sub menu with the names of the Libraries or Create a New Library.

Hopefully this is not too confusing & will help you understand where some things are actually stored.

I removed Libraries altogether and I sort my data like in Win XP. My Documents, Videos and Graphics are folders on my D (Data) partition, but you can put them anywhere on the C drive you want, or under Users. My Documents is also split into many different topic subfolders, so everything is included in one place. I don't put mine under Users because I'm the only user.
