Open and Save As Window - Navigation Pane - Bug Glitch

    Windows 7 64Bit Professional SP1
    No other updates applied.

Wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this or maybe can try it out.

1.) If you go into a Wordpad and you click "Open" or "Save As" it will call up their window.
2.) Right click mouse in the blank space of the Navigation Pane and uncheck "Show all folders"
3.) Open a folder that contains quite a bit of folders or adjust the size of the windows height so that you get a vertical scroll bar in the Navigation Pane on the left.
4.) Drag the Navigation Panes vertical scroll bar with your mouse to the bottom and then scroll back up to the top.
5.) When I do this my OS drive C:\ label shows up towards the top of the list but right above it is another C:\ label cut horizontally showing the tops of the letters of the label.
6.) When I drag my mouse cursor over this cut off label it then becomes whole and the C:\ label below then shows a cut version showing the bottom of the letters.
7.) Then if I drag (no buttons being held) my mouse cursor down if is almost like a refresh paint brush where it paints the problem away. (I swear I don't do drugs )

    Anybody else get similar results?
Does anyone know how to fix something like this?

Currently I am just running a machine to test some stuff out.
    I have disabled some services.
I have also applied regedits to remove items from the Windows Explorer and Open and Save As windows navigation panes (All of them but "Computer") (So removed items such as Libraries, User Folder, Network, Favorites, Etc)

If anyone can give this a try and let me know your results it would be appreciated.
    Thank You

    EDIT
I just noticed that I am also getting this in my Windows Explorer navigation pane as well.
I tried rebooting before, but I will run a couple reboots and see if anything changes.

I tried rebooting a couple of times and it didn't fix it.

As I mentioned above it does this in the navigation panes of the following items...
    Windows Explorer
    Open (Window)
    Save As (Window)

If I right click on the empty space of the navigation pane and check "Show all folders" then this issue goes away.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe somehow by removing some items (Libraries, Favorites, etc.) from the navigation pane, that when in the mode where "Show all folders" is off (unchecked) that it somehow messes with how the navigation pane refreshes?

For now I will just keep "Show all folders" on, unless someone offers a solution.
Just wondering if anyone else experiences anything like this.

Well hope this helps someone in the future
    Thank You

Looks like you get same results after each boot, Mike. Can't say I've seen this problem before; I got to repeat step 1-4 without any side-effects on my own machine. If you say the issue goes when hovering the mouse over affected area, then that could be a performance issue with your graphics card. So, I'd suggest start looking at Performance Options in Control Panel > System Security > System > Advanced system settings.

In the Visual Effects Tab select radio buttons for either Adjust for best appearance or Adjust for best performance, and see if that nudges the outcome for your computer.

    @iko22
Thank you for your response, I tested out your recommendation but unfortunately no change.
I set it to best performance and then for best appearance and both still product the same result.

I don't want to edit my registry again at the moment to test this, but it is probably because I removed the items from the navigation pane, and somehow it causes Windows 7 to not be able to refresh the navigation pane.
When I ruin my machine enough to have to do a clean install, I will then give it a test, it is only a matter of time

Okay, I can now confirm that is what it is.
I performed the regedits that allow you to remove the following items from my Windows Explorer navigation pane....
    Favorites
    Libraries
    User Folder
    Network

If you have your navigation pane setting "show all folders" unchecked, this glitch will occur.
Tested it right before worked fine, and right after the regedits were applied is when it happens.

I really doubt anyone will find a real fix for this, or care to.
The only way I know of at the moment is to use the "show all folders" view which solves it for the most part, you just have slightly different view in your navigation pane.

If anyone has anything else, to share please do so.
    Thank You

add or remove favorite, libraries, user folder or network reg mod one at a time and see when side effect happens or falls over.

    assume show all folders unchecked.
