I worked the Dell forums for over 10 years (I'm still listed as one of the "rockstars") The "standard" install procedure we gave to all users.
1 Install Windows, 2 Install Dell Laptop (or Desktop as applicable) Support Software, 3 Install Intel motherboard chipset drivers (and other chipset drivers as applicable), 4. Install device drivers including Video, Sound, Ethernet/Wi-Fi, etc.

I would download all the drivers from the Dell downloads for your specific VOSTRO model. Burn them to a disc or a USB flash drive so you will have all the needed drivers for the "clean" install.

Question, if I just let windows keep on updating and updating when it stops will those automaticly update my drivers?
Not unless you tell Windows to download and install the "optional" updates. I would advise not to ever set Windows to download and update the optional updates. If you need a specific one, then manually install that one "optional" update yourself. In the case of your wireless adapter, I think it would be good to see if Windows can find that driver, and if it does, install it.

Did you not find the driver for your wireless adapter in the Vostro downloads section on the Dell webpage?

Go here for the drivers for your specific service tag:
    http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/...rivers?os=w764

Change the OS to Windows 7, 64-bit, then click on Network.

Download and install the wireless driver which includes Bluetooth.

An odd thing on this webpage: Under "Other ways to find drivers", it says to "Browse all drivers for XPS 15 L502X". As was said in an earlier post, apparently you can use the XPS drivers for this Vostro.

Problem is when I put in my service tag it does not come up as the Vostro 3450 it comes up as a XPS L502X machine, that has been the main PITA. Today at least Im back on wirelessly. Now to find all the rest of the correct drivers?

As mentioned it was originally sold new in CZECK (sorry can spell the rest, then must of been refurbished by Dell and resold in the states (you can see that on the Dell site)

Dell does not have a "refurbish" center. They sell under warranty returns (basically new in the first 30 days) as "refurbished" but not old PC's. Dell, like other PC vendors, want to sell you new PC's, not recycled used.

This laptop sold new in Czeck w 500gb hd then according to dell it had a new 320gb hd installed here in the USA and at that time it was coming back as a XPS machine. Still do not get it as the laptop still says vostro on it and its only a 14in not the 15 XPS.

What ever this is , its been quite a fun puzzle so far....

ran this Downloads for Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility and it fixed the "sm bus controller id pciven_8086&dev_1c2&subsys_04c51028&rev_05"

Also just went in and uninstalled the "quanticom atheros bluetooth" and restarted and uts gone foe good, Now the last issue is the unknown device in other devices,.

    Here is what I see:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.
