Dell Vostro Laptop / Ran Diagonostic and it shws as a Dell XPS Laptop?

    Hi,
I picked up a Dell 14" Vostro 3450 running Win7 Pro 64bit, when I went into Dell to get the service tag it shows up as a XPS 15 L502X 15in laptop? (same guts??)

Next I ran the Dell PC test and when I got the results they were in Czech? So I translated that w/ Google and it shows that the test passed for the buner, HD and memory. I will run a full one next

I called the guy who sold me the laptop and he said years back dell had a tech come out and replace something on the laptop and that he did not remember whet?

Any idea what caused this and what was replaced? Is there a way to change the language on the Dell report to be in English all the time?

    TIA

It is unlikely that an authorized Dell technician would have done something that resulted in what you currently have.

Try manually entering the service tag, rather than letting Dell scan for it. If you get back that it's a Vostro after you manually enter the service tag, then perhaps a Czech language version of an XPS factory restore disk was used at some point to reinstall Windows? If that is even possible, it would have taken some work afterwards to get everything working correctly.

If I am correct about a Czech factory restore disk being used, then an easy way to fix things would be to get an English language set of factory restore disks for your model of the Vostro. I ordered a set of factory restore disks from Dell years ago; it cost me around $20.

It is possible that the hard drive contains the factory restore files. But I wouldn't be surprised if you got the Czech version again; and you would then have to locate and install all of the correct drivers, including your network adapter driver, which means that you would have a big hassle on your hands. Things are working now, so I think your best bet is to try to get the correct factory restore disks from Dell and then do a rebuild with them.

Yes I did the manual tag and got the XPS, read the configurations (both are the same machine) would it be ok to use like this if it passes all the diagnostics? I do not mind reinstalling the OS if that would be a sure fix.

Or could it be another issue?

Since Dell is telling you the correct current configuration, does the Dell PC Test now show you the correct information? In other words, did your visit to the Dell website correct the info which is stored in the computer?

I don't think there is any harm in using your computer with the wrong info in it, except when it comes to updates. Whenever you scan for updates, it will probably return updates which pertain to an XPS rather than a Vostro.

    Hi JJR,

Obviously the frst thing that comes to mind
Measure the screen. 14 or 15

as its showing as Czech, would it work on US voltages.

Highly unlikely that for either version any Dell updates will be required, including Bios, as your running W7

The other major difference was the operating system Home V Pro

Belarc advisor will provide you with its hardware configuration, compare them

If its running quite merrily its NOT a problem, reinstalling the OS will not change hardware details, or change the dell diagnostic report language thats picked up from the service tag.

running this tool might provide a little more data but not much, copy/paste the output

Just ran every test that Dell offered and it passed them all see below:

Would anyone know if I re-installed the OS if that would fix the issue?

WELL i certainly wasnt expecting that!!!

    Hi jjr,
    its Non-genuine
gotta tell you its activated via an exploit
You have a volume licence key thats self validating via a loop back

have you had to use slmgr/rearm

You will need to use the COA sticker code key to make it genuine.
note - the type will also have to be PRO (Dell OA)
If its home then you will need to re-install with that version Iso

The motherboard is coming back as a Vostro 3450

As i said in my ealier post ALL data returned from Dell cannot be user changed
