I will get a wired keyboard and let you know what happens. Thank you.
My keyboard works fine once Windows has booted. It's only a problem while the error recovery screen is displayed where I am supposed to be able to use the up/down arrow keys to choose a boot mode (safe mode, safe mode with networking, normal, etc.) and then press the "Enter" key to choose. But the system doesn't recognize my key presses during that screen. So I wait, and of course Windows boots normally, and then the keyboard, mouse etc. work perfectly. I am using the same keyboard right now to type this message. So a new keyboard isn't the answer. I think maybe the BIOS setting got changed somehow. Maybe when the power went our during a storm. I will have to try a wired keyboard and see if I can get into the BIOS setup screen, because I can't do that anymore either.
Jack I've never changed the USB since I've had this system, and it's always worked. We had a power failure several weeks ago,and that's when the issue began. I feel strongly that some setting in the BIOS has changed, but I can't get to the BIOS setup screen until I get a wired keyboard to be sure. Once windows has booted the keyboard is fine. If I could get to the BIOS screen directly from Windows 7, I would be able to see/change the settings, but as far as I know, that's not possible. The BIOS is only available during the first few seconds of powering on the system (by pressing certain keys, which I can't do at that time), but not once Windows has started.
I understand what you are saying.
You could of lost your usb 3.0 capability because it's not native to Windows 7.
I'm not familiar HP bios so I will be unable to give help their. On my Asus systems the blue usb ports are 3.0 and the black usb ports are 2.0.
If the bios are not set correctly the usb 3.0 will not load until the system is booted. Therefore the keyboard will not work until the system is completely booted into Windows 7.
Hopefully someone familiar with HP bios will drop by
Jack
Thanks. I will try to find a wired USB keyboard so that I can at least get into the BIOS screen and see what the settings are.
