Please save my computer from the hammer!

I am using a fresh install of 7 and basically anything I download from the web is not working. I did manage to download Chrome and through Chrome downloaded and can use Gtalk (which would not download using Explorer) but that's it.

Most exe files end up giving me an NSIS error. I could not run the exe for rhapsody, but I was able to run a copy of it from my old system. But when I got rhapsody installed I got endless scripting errors and had to shut it down from the taskbar.

I had World of Warcraft installed and I can log into the game. When I've logged in my friends can see that I'm online and I can move around just fine - but my system is getting no info back from the server so I cannot see anyone else moving around the world and cannot interact within the game.

I successfully downloaded EasyCleaner and installed it. But, alas, I double-click the file, click yes to allowing it to make changes to my computer, and then watch it shut itself down after having done nothing.

I installed 7 over the top of the pre-release. I have reinstalled it on a blank partition. No matter. Same problems. I did not have these problems with the pre-release.

Oh - I also completely disabled Windows firewall as well as tried using the NCRC command line switch to bypass the download issues but to no avail

Sorry to vomit out all my system's issues, but I figured these problems are all related, I can't find my Vista discs and I am ready to toss my computer out the window.

Oh... and this is a double post, posted as a reply elsewhere. Sorry about that, too.

    Can anyone help????

    Thanks in advance.

seems llike you got a lot going on there, i would recommend formatting and doing a clean install. But seeing as you've done that i have no idea

I havent heard anything like this before are you sure your copy isnt bad. I would recommend giving your store you bought it from see if they could replace it if your copy is legit

Before you started 'downloading stuff from the web' and throwing it onboard perhaps you should have taken the time to ensure Windows7 was properly loaded, and to have ensure you'd got all the correct drivers onboard...

It's Windows7 Home Premium and I purchased it last week from Staples.

Qdos - can you give me more instruction there? I'm not sure what you mean by "properly loaded." I installed it. I followed the install instructions. I have in the past also installed XP, Vista, Ubuntu, and the pre-release of Windows7 and have no idea what you mean by "properly loaded." Also - which drivers might cause this problem? I can certainly try to install drivers, I'm just not sure which possibly-out-of-date drivers might be causing the issues I'm having.

    Thanks.

Check in Devcice Mgr and is if you have any yellow triangles. Also fill out your system specs so we know something about your system.

It's important to get a clean setup (and preferably make a backup) which includes all your drivers and any important W7 updates before adding programs etc. You can roll back to that 'bare metal' state in the event of problems if you do this - but, as things stand, you don't know what's in play and may end up having to do a clean install for a second time...

No yellow triangles. Filled out a little bit of my system info. Pretty much stock stuff on the Gateway. My onboard ethernet card went down a few months ago. Currently I'm using a Trendnet TU2-ET100 to connect to the internet, which actually has no current Windows7 driver, but worked like a charm on the pre-release and still lets me cruise around the web just fine.
