Why do I have a copies of files without an original file

I have a great many music and video files that have 'copy' shown in the filename. I didnt make copies and any originals arent anywhere on the PC. Tried using a duplicate file finder which returns zero copies

    W7 home desktop PC

    Thanks

When you do a file copy and paste it on same location it will add a "copy" to the name.
For example, select any file and do a Ctrl+c then a Ctrl+v.
You may have a original file (ex Sam.doc) and a copy Sam-copy.doc
Duplicate file finder wont find any as the name is different (ex Sam.doc and Sam-copy.doc)
