Screenshots not saving

I recently had some upgrades done on my laptop, including having a SSD installed and some more memory, but I find I now can't take/save screenshots.

I've followed various instructions about setting the save location, but with no luck.

Can someone take me through the process so I can see what the problem is?

Welcome to the forum. When you take a screenshot it only goes to the clipboard it's not saved. Once you take a shot you need to open a photo editing programming and past the image or some give the option to. Create from clipboard

But before they were automatically saved to a folder. They're not saved to it before.

When you use the Sniping tool to take snapshots (%windir%\system32\SnippingTool.exe) you must save them by File - Save as or by the the floppy disk. Then select the file name and folder.

I'm not sure what that means. I'm a bit of an IT novice, really. What is the sniping tool? I've never used it before.

I'll say again - I never had to do anything like this before; I would just hit the 'PrtSc' button and it automatically saved the screenshot to the screenshots folder.

Why can't I still do that?

Use the Sniping tool to take snapshots (%windir%\system32\SnippingTool.exe). You can select what you want to save as an image.

The 'PrtSc' button, as Samuria mentioned, save the whole screen to the clipboard and then you have to paste somewhere else and save it.

Try:

Windows key + PrtScr (Print screen) key

Tell if this has helped you.

Note: you may need to add FN key in the above combo/combination, if your key PrtScr set to be on FN's level / color / accessibility (e.g.: Win key + FN key + PrtScr key) .

If it has worked for you but you still prefer one button press shot - I would suggest writing a small script to help you with that. Script is like a set of commands, conditions and etc.

For example, with a script running you could press only Print Screen button to get self a ready-screen, avoiding doing the combo. I think it is doable to this point. If you like to arrange this, I could attempt writing the code (and explain each of its line for clarity of what it does) for you to use it when creating own script file.

Yet, I believe you will be fine with Win+PrtScr combo if it works for you ;D

If the above doesn't work for you, then you can't do it the old way because this is the change that took place in your current Window's OS version / or update.

Eh, true enough, did come across this bit of information earlier, but for some reason it didn't do the expected, after what - I tried with win key, and worked. Gave a tiny chance it might be worth of trying that combo in Win7 anyways.

Screenpresso - this one took my curiosity for it can do also a video capture there as well. Personally I use Lightshot for screens, but some time ago was looking for some normal video capturing app. Thanks for sharing this one here.

Windows 7 is not able to do this task so I believe that before installing the new SSD you had a third party application saving the screenshots.
There are many free applications that can do it for example:
FastStone Capture http://www.aplusfreeware.com/categor...neCapture.html
Gadwin Printscreen https://www.gadwin.com/download
WinSnap http://www.ntwind.com/software/winsnap.html
