I'd like to add a caveat to one of my earlier statements:
I'm seeing grumblings that WU could do the spectre updates but, MS and WU would have to work together with Intel and their code to receive the patches, so far Intel is reluctant to reveal their code and don't forget the OEM's, and how they along with Intel massage the Intel code to suit the individual aims of the OEM's.

It would be: MS + Intel + OEM's working together to achieve a fix that wouldn't greatly impact the consumer, but I'm not going to hold my breath because corporate pride would invariably get in the way.

I ran the InSpectre tool and had the same results as you.
The Intel ME, with all the different versions... You just had to remind me of that security risk, didn't you?

Having the PCH running MINIX, that starts before Windows or any other OS, with full control of the OS and data. None of the security solutions on the market can actually monitor what the ME is doing. Even EFF complains about it:

Intel's Management Engine is a security hazard, and users need a way to disable it | Electronic Frontier Foundation

I agree that the proper way would be cooperation between Intel, MS and OEMs to actually fix the Spectre. Disclosing the source code of ME to so many entities would would break the "security by obscurity" for ME. That's not going to happen and older Intel CPUs will not be fixed by Intel. Even if the hackers already exploited ME:

Yes they are synonymous but avarice is insatiable and usually associated with miserliness and hoarding, where greed is associated with over consumption.

But hey! We're friends and don't need to be splitting hairs do we?
