Oboy! Never knew that. I had bee going into boot order for hours on end. Made a saved document of your procedure. Thanks bunches on top of more bunches! The last boot order after I left was:
1. HD
2. Optical Drive
3. LAN
4.EFI
5 then bunch of nothings

How do you suggest I check to see if the cd-dvd is recognized by windows? See nothing in task manager, windows start glob list or notification bar nor icon links

Uh,

First, disable auto-run as I indicated in prior post. Insert CD in drive, click computer, green bar should fill in left to right and title of CD should appear in the DVD-RW drive area.

If nothing appears, and you click on the drive and file contents doesn't open, your disk is most likely damaged. Next, I'd give ImgBurn disk verification a go and you will most likely get a read error or similar error code.

If so, Then you have to try the recovery program Britec uses in his video. As he clearly states in the video, it doesn't always work. Be nice if someone you know has a Win7x64 ISO or installation disk! You want to choose all the files/folders, etc. on the disk to recover.

Done for the night been up studying for my CompTIA tests, etc. since 5:45 am.

Update: to see if optical drive recognizes a cd/dvd, with optical drive disabled, I got recognition with:

(1) an empty dc disk, the image just changed, (2) a full dvd "dance" disk which showed the "dance" title, (3) the first of the total 6 Gateway recovery disk (services) which solely changed the image.

so "something" changed in all 3 instances.

Please know, I may well be slower in replies now. Just started a new job to be sure I can continue paying all bills in full, so plz be patient. Thanks again mucho, Jim

Insert recovery disk 1,
run/start ImgBurn,
click verify disk,
uncheck Verify against Image file
click verify disk.
If it's successful, verify the remaining disks in the set.

You could verify by several other programs as well, instead of ImgBurn, if you wish.
I Downloaded and ran this tool the other night, VSO-Inspector
Simple to use:
Place DVD/CD/BR in drive
Start VSO-Inspector
Click Scan tab
Click start

Uh,

Where did you obtain the data from that you posted? Never mind, I found it!

AutoPlay feature looks for the autorun executable and if present and autoplay is enabled on computer, it runs and the DVD starts. It has nothing to do with the physical disk or data on the disk.

Did you insert DVD and run ImgBurn verify disk?

When at the screen Computer, if you double left-click on the DVD, does the contents of the disk display? It may take a few minutes, if a green bar starts to appear from left to right.

Yes, inserted as directed. Recall that I was not sure where to click to start the verify process. Had 2 icons. J
