You shouldn't need to install any software in order to get the CD drive to work - it should simply work when you plug it in.

Alreight, dbl checked with both LG itself and RE-PC. Both said it will install a windows OS form a cd / dvd solely on a plug and play basis. The cd installation disk was just for burning cd's. Kinda Bad directions for a manual. Thanks, Jim

Back again. set the boot order to this. Removable drive. Hard disk #. cd/dvd optical drive #. Lan. EFI device. Inserted both a music dvd then did the windows pro 7 installation disk, but no joy. I note, that the ext. drive full part number shows up in the F12> "DISPLAY BOOT MENU" but does not show in the Delete> Bios setup utility.

I see the lite on the ext drive sometimes. sometimes not. sometimes it starts spinning the disk. Aslo see not auotp play notification window popup.

your ides again plz. J

Try a different USB port. Also, if you have it plugged in one of the back ports, try one of the front ports.

Plugged into all ports front & back. No joy. The ext drive seems to run each time tho, on every usb port. Makes its little startup sound and wirrs from the disk turning inside. Oh and BTW, absolutely NO CLiCKING like before at all. Guess I try looking around for clues. Kinda defied logic, Huh! What you think?

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"

See generally: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON-PAGES-AREA - Google Search

The page I get looks really close (almost if not exact verbtim) to this thread's posted blue page captured image: How to Fix “Page fault in non paged area” Error

Restart the computer in Safe Mode Command Prompt. Run chkdsk from there.

As for the other issues, I'm at a loss.

I thot I'd saw there was a way of running chkdsk completely from a flash drive. Guess not eh? Please recall, this hd was formatted, so the win chkdsk program does not exist to run from there.

What do you think of the suggestion that TechnoMage2016 made on Page 2, post 19? He said, as pertinent:

"It's most likely that the installer doesn't like what it's seeing on the HD. I've had that happen and I just disconnect the HD from it's own PC and connect the drive to my Main PC (as a slave) and use a Partition Manager, on my own PC, to wipe the HD. Then with a 'Clean' drive, the installer will work OK." More $ but few alys its seems. Jim

Why would it be more money? Unless you are thinking that you will have to pay for Partition Manager. You could try Partition Manager Free: https://www.paragon-software.com/free/pm-express/#

As far as that goes, you could boot into Linux Live and use GPARTED to remove the current partition(s) and then create one new partition for the entire hard drive. (Make sure you create an NTFS partition.) Then remove the Linux Live disk, put in the Windows install disk, and reboot. If the current partition is the culprit here, then this should fix it.

Howdy, I tried to search through the forums before posting. I've seen similar situations, but not the same as mine. Fortunately, I don't need anything on the HDD, so would be fine with wiping the HDD completely if I could only figure out how. Here's the situation. I had upgraded from W7...
